Back Room Musings
Producers of dolly kitsch and conundrums. Historical custodians . Preservationists of the discarded. From then until now.
Like many others (multiplied by a gazillion in the 21st century), I fancy myself a writer. Or at least I want to be a writer. It started in 1982, the summer I ran away from home and went to live at my best friend house. Turns out her mother was a popular playwright and ever since then, I've been preparing for the big moment. Preparing or procrastinating? I have three degrees, one certificate and two others in process. Thinking about a PhD. All to better prepare myself to finish the novel I started two universities, an arts centre, online college and decades spent online doing research. I travelled extensively through Mexico, spent time on both the east and west coasts, and even vacationed in Paris - the location of my epic play. I started a Matcha, Meditation and Mindfulness group. I sell tea on the side and I work full time. I take two belly dance classes a week, All in a foolish guise to justify not writing. Since the inception of my WIP and a another cozy mystery series, as well as a play that's in a working draft, I've seen others succeed where I choose to sit in my studio, alone with my thoughts, overtaken by my fear of failure. I've got writer envy and am hoping to harness it and put it to good use. I've tried to find writing groups and support groups to keep me accountable. I joined the Berkely X book club - all to better prepare me for writing. I'm very accomplished at avoiding the truth. So now to stop procrastinating and start preparing.
